The life-affirming tale of Precious Donatus Ogbonna and her controversial babies is yet to be over as she has delivered another baby, the same way she delivered seven others bringing the number to eight in a space of 16 months, and about two months after she was released on bail from the prison custody.

The so-called birth took place at 12:15 am Thursday, at Rose Natural Clinic, Afam Street, Heritage junction, beside Paradise International School, Afam, Oyigbo, Port-Harcourt, Rivers state. It was one of the places SaturdayVanguard had reported of carrying out mysterious deliveries. Precious is yet standing trial in court over child trafficking.

Pastor Caught With Male Church Member Inside Hotel Room

The police at Ijesha Police Division in Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, have arrested a suspected homosexual pastor, Prince Egimonele, in a hotel as he attempted to have sex with his male church member.

The victim, Chidiebere Mozie, a drummer in the pastor’s church, reportedly played along and informed the police of the appointment with the pastor before they went inside the hotel room to have sex. The police laid ambush for the pastor

A police source informed P.M.NEWS that the pastor, Egimonele, the General Overseer of Jesus Intervention Ministry at Ijesha Community Hall, a native of Abia State, Southeast Nigeria, was arrested inside the hotel along Ijesha Road, where he had gone to have fun with Chidiebere Mozie, 23, whom he allegedly lured with N100,000.

However, luck ran out on the pastor when policemen arrested him in the hotel.

Items recovered from the randy clergyman inside the hotel room include a pack of viagra, a drug that boosts male libido, Rough Rider condoms, cream and fruit juice.

After police investigation, the pastor and an accomplice Lawrence were arraigned before a Cele Magistrate’s Court in Lagos on a four-count charge of having sex with a male partner and an attempt to have unlawful carnal knowledge and indecent practice with a male person in a hotel.

The offences, according to the prosecutor, are punishable under Sections 516, 214 and 217 of the Criminal Code.

Section 214 of the Criminal Code Act, Chapter 77, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 reads:“Any person who has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or has carnal knowledge of an animal; or permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature is guilty of felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen (14) years.”

Section 217 of the Criminal Code Act reads:“Any male person who, whether in public or private, commits any act of gross indecency with another male person, or procures another male person to commit any act of gross indecency with him, or attempts to procure the commission of any such act by any male person with himself or with another male person, whether in public or private, is guilty of a felony and is liable to imprisonment for three years.”

The accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to them.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs. D. T. Olatokun, admitted the pastor to bail in the sum of N250,000 and Lawrence, N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum.

She adjourned the matter till 10 November, 2011 for mention.

The accused were moved to Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Apapa, Lagos, when they could not perfect their bail conditions in good time.

Abia Gang Rape Victim, Feared Dead!

There is "the possibility that the Abia State University raped victim might have been killed", elombah.com has been told. Nigerian authorties say no one has lodged a complaint. Five male students of the Abia State University (ABSU) raped a young female student and posted the video on youtube. Reports say the victim insulted one of her rapists who then

decided to teach her a lesson of her life.

The Gang Rape assailants were named as:
1. Ifeanyi Justin Ogu
2. Jonah Uche (final or extra year accountancy)
3. Zaki (resides in Duberville Lodge, ABSU)

In the rape video, which lasted well over an hour, the girl could be seen trying to fight off these animals-in-human-skin. When her efforts proved abortive amidst beatings, she resorted to pleading with them to spare her; but her pleas fell on deaf ears. And when she could not take the excruciating pain any longer, she begged them to kill her, instead of let her live with the stigma our society would pile on top of her already horrendous trauma. As she pleaded with them, the boys laughed and mocked her, asking her to ‘co-operate’ or face two more days of torture by rape.

The incident, which is believed to have occured in Abia State sparked outrage nationwide.

But newly elected President of the Students Union Government (SUG) of ABSU, Mr Chidi Uruakpa told elombah.com that the crime was not commited on ABSU campus.

A Nigerian Lawyer said "that is not a problem because assailants chose frrom where to operate and their targets. So he will please have to tell all he knows about it, where it happened and Miss X's whereabout, who has been kept incommunicado since the incident or may not have survived the attack."

She added that "in law when a Miss X was last found with her attackers, the presumption is that they killed or hid her."

Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi

The Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Mobolaji Abdullahi, said on Thursday, that one of the suspects in the gang rape of a yet-to-be identified female had been identified. He, however, expressed doubts that the suspects would be convicted based on the available evidence.
Abdullahi said this in Lagos at a meeting with youth organisations.
The minister said, “More than 70 per cent of the information we have on the rape will not be said here for obvious security reasons. But I can tell you we have information on it.
“The girl is not a student of Abia State University. She was raped in an off-campus residential area of students.
“One of them (suspects) has been identified conclusively.”
Although the faces of the rapists are not seen in the video, the minister said the National Human Rights Commission was on top of the situation.

He said, “Some legal experts have told us that it may be difficult to convict the rapists because the video does not reveal the face of the victims.
“The National Human Rights Commission is working with the Ministry of Youth Development. The commission, which is headed by a competent lawyer, is on top of this case.
“This is law, if we can not press for rape, there are other charges that we can press. I can assure you that justice will be done.”
The minister, at the meeting, fielded questions from some of the 50 selected participants, among whom were Fela Durotoye and Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde, on national issues bearing on youth.
He promised that his ministry would organise a conference for not just potential rape victims but potential rapists, to address the ugly trend among youths.

Sources say rape at ABSU has become a steady occurrence. Most victims of this ungodly act would rather keep mum over the incident than report it and face stigmatisation from the society.

So far, there are over 1,356,662 downloads of the rape video.
In the video, the girl’s face is clearly seen but the faces of the five boys remain blurred. One could clearly hear them speak Igbo and English plus refer to each other by names; for instance, one of the rapists said, “Wisdom don dey talk now.”

Other names the rapists called themselves during the ‘operation’ include: Chisom, Zaki, Uchenna. Zaki even bragged to the victim, “Do you know who Zaki is?” The fifth name is a little muffled but sounded very much likeIfeanyi. One of them identified himself as a 400 level law student, while another claims to be studying IT or Information Technology.

And one of them has a car…Whereas, the federal government of Nigeria has vowed to bring these criminals to justice, Governor of Abia State – T. A. Orji – and his cabinet denied the incident happened or occurred at ABSU…

Nigerians has since demontrated their anger at the occurence;

Adding "that the Abia State officials want to sweep this matter under the carpet clearly shows that these cowards are the children of Igbo’s men of timber and calibre. Please, let us put pressure to bear on them to ensure this innocent young woman gets the justice she deserves. Let people cast fear to the wind and come forward with information that would lead to the prosecution of these idiots…Remember, this innocent student could have been anyone’s sister or relative".

US astronomers find planet with two Suns

US astronomers said Thursday they have discovered the first planet that is orbiting two Suns, much like the fictional home of Luke Skywalker featured in Star Wars.
Skywalker's native planet of Tatooine was hot and desert-like, but this planet, called Kepler-16b, is a freezing cold world about the size of Saturn, orbiting two parent Suns in a near perfect circle about 200 light years away.
The planet was glimpsed with the US space agency's Kepler space telescope, which monitors the brightness of 155,000 stars, according to the research published in the journal Science.
"This discovery is stunning," said co-author Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution for Science Department of Terrestrial Magnetism.
"Once again, what used to be science fiction has turned into reality."
While astronomers have previously glimpsed planets they believed were orbiting two stars, they had never before seen one actually passing in front of its two Suns so this discovery offers the first proof.
"Kepler-16b is the first confirmed, unambiguous example of a circumbinary planet -- a planet orbiting not one, but two stars," said co-author Josh Carter of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
"Once again, we're finding that our solar system is only one example of the variety of planetary systems nature can create."
If there were people on Kepler-16b, they could relax to the view of a double sunset, but such a scenario is highly unlikely due to the planet's extreme frigid surface temperature of -100 to -150 Fahrenheit (-73 to -101 Celsius).
The chill is likely due to the fact that even though the planet has two Suns which it orbits every 229 days at a distance of 65 million miles (105 million kilometers), they are smaller and cooler than our single Sun.
One of Kepler-16b's Suns is 20 percent as massive as ours, and the other is 69 percent as massive.
While the planet orbits them, the two Suns dance with each other in an "eccentric 41-day orbit," the study said.
The study was led by Kepler scientist Laurance Doyle of the California-based SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute.

A Korean TV documentary team went on a search for the truth behind the dead baby pill, and what they found was shocking.

When the hospital has a deceased baby case, the staff, who are openly involved, are instructed to immediately notify the medicine company. The documentary team reveals the super secret process of how the Dead Baby Pill is made.
The medicine company stores these dead babies in a normal family’s refrigerator, so no one can find out. Then, when ready to use, they put the dead baby in a medical drying microwave, also located in someone’s house. Once dry, they grind it up and put it in the capsule.
At a very high price the documentary team got their hands on some of these pill and had them tested.
The results: 99.7% HUMAN
From the test results they were also able to tell the gender and found hair and nail remnants.

The business of the dead baby pill is secretive and expensive, but it’s not without the consent of the deceased mother. Microwave dried placenta is another brand of pill that are openly made by this medical company.
I’m not sure if the placenta or the dead baby pill gives you more stamina, but I can tell you that I’m sticking with coffee.

Gov Fashola Bans Two Years Rent In Lagos, Landlord Will Be Jailed

Governor Fashola is really trying his best to make life in Lagos easy for its inhabitants, from rights of children and now to tenancy, all for the purpose of putting a smile on the faces of Lagosians. Now, you do not need to try and break a bank all for the purpose of been able to pay a landlord for three years apartment rent. The law has been sealed and any Landlord or tenant caught breaking the law will be made to face the music.

"This is contained in the new tenancy bill that was passed into law by the State House of Assembly today. The law, which is expected to receive the assent of Governor Babatunde Fashola any moment from now, also stipulates that it is unlawful and criminal for a landlord or his agent to demand or receive from a sitting tenant, rent in excess of six months in respect of any premises without prejudice to the nature of tenancy.

This means that those who are already tenants are not expected to pay more than six months in advance to their landlord. Hitherto, tenants were compelled to pay for even more than two years in some cases.

The bill places a fine of N100,000 or three years imprisonment on any landlord or new tenant who pays in excess of one year and N100,000 or three months imprisonment for any landlord who fails to issue a receipt to a tenant for payment of rent.

The bill captioned: “A bill for a law to regulate rights and obligations under tenancy agreement and the relationship between landlord and the tenant including the procedure for the recovery of premises and for other connected purposes in Lagos State,” states that “it shall be unlawful for a sitting tenant to offer or pay rent in excess of one year for a yearly tenant in respect of any premises and any person who receives or pays rent in excess of what is prescribed by the law shall be guilty of an offense and shall be liable to a fine of N100,000.SOURCE

Although it accounts for only 2% of your total body weight, the fact remains that the brain is a food-hungry organ with ten times the appetite of other organs. In order to function, it uses up a minimum of 20% of your daily calorie in-take.
In addition to calories, you should also make sure you get good nutrients for your neurons through a balanced and varied diet. To ensure your brain gets what it needs there are certain foods you should add to your diet.

1. Oily fish (mackerel, sardines salmon…) for brain maintenance

More than 50% of brain mass is made up of lipids, and over 70% of these are fatty acids that belong to the well-known Omega 3 group. These fats are crucial to the production and maintenance of brain cells, preserving the fluidity of cell membrane.
They also play a part in neuron activity. Weakening brain function and memory trouble can often be traced back to a deficiency in Omega 3¹. Oily fish are one of the best sources of Omega 3, but if fish isn't to your taste, consider nut oils and rapeseed oil as equally rich alternatives.

2. Pulses (lentils, chick-peas...) for brain energy

The brain is said to be glucose-dependent, which means it uses only glucose to function. It consumes more than 5g an hour, but doesn’t know how to store it. It therefore has to be regularly supplied your diet via the circulatory system. It has long been proven that the most difficult task within intellectual performance, the capacity to memorise, depends on the level of glucose in the blood².
But beware of indulging in sugary foods and confectionery; though easy to snack on, they can lead to such strong fluctuations that your system can react violently and reduce blood sugar to below its normal level. The brain cannot tolerate this and the drop in blood sugar leads to fatigue and a shorter attention span.
The sugars that are said to be ‘complex’ and which have a low Glycaemic Index (GI) are therefore crucial. Pulses are rich in these ‘complex’ sugars, and their GI is one of the lowest. This really works to allow the regulation of glucose in the blood and its supply to the brain without creating a reaction of hyperglycaemia. If pulses aren’t to your taste either, consider wholegrain foods, especially cooked ‘al dente’.

3. Bananas for a calm brain

Rich in magnesium, which is essential in the transmission of nervous impulses, bananas are equally a source of Vitamin B6 (just one banana holds practically a quarter of the recommended daily amount). This vitamin is not only involved in the assimilation and use of magnesium in cells, but also in the metabolism of amino acids and the functioning of the nervous system through enabling the production of certain neurotransmitters, notably Serotonin and GABA (Gamma-amino butyric acid).
These two molecules seem to create the right state of mind for prudent, calm and measured behaviour. If you don’t like bananas, consider prunes or dried fruit instead.

4. Liver (veal, beef, chicken…) for intelligence

The brain accounts for around 20% of the body’s oxygen needs, and iron is needed to get oxygen to the brain by means of the blood’s haemoglobin. Liver is one of your diet’s assets guaranteed to contain this valuable metal. Equally, liver is one of the most important sources of Vitamin B. Since the mid 1980s, it has been shown that these vitamins, mainly B9, B12, B1 and B6, improve cognitive function and the results of intelligence tests. If you don’t like liver, consider ham, beef or nutritional yeast as a supplement.

5. Red berries for happy brain cells

All edible berries (blackcurrants, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries etc.) are veritable mines of Vitamin C (blackcurrants have twice as much concentration in Vitamin C as kiwi fruit, and three times as much as oranges). They have antioxidant micronutrients that make up their colour (anthocyanes, polyphenols, flavonoids…)
Together, they not only fight against free radicals which can affect nerve cells, notably brain cells, but also improve circulation and strengthen blood capillaries, which enable the best oxygenation of the brain. If you don’t like red berries, then go for kiwi fruit or garlic.

6. Shellfish for brain function

Though rich in Vitamin B12 and in protein (notably lysine, a precursor to dopamine, a powerful neurotransmitter), it is mostly the oligo-elements in seafood and crustaceans (oysters, clams, shrimp etc.) that are good for brain function. Oligo-elements are crucial in order to fight and prevent stress and its inconveniences. Some of these can be described as ‘therapeutic weapons’ as they have a hand in fighting anxiety, mental fatigue and nervous disposition.
Manganese, copper, lithium, zinc and iodine have this effect too and can also be found in seafood. If you don’t like shellfish, consider eating wholemeal bread, algae (which has iodised salt as in table salt) or wheat germ.

7. Eggs for brain connectivity

Eggs contain lecithin and phospholipids, integral to the construction of brain cell membrane. In terms of feeding intellect, their value lies mainly in the quality of their proteins. Long used as points of reference when analysing the quality of other dietary proteins by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FOA), eggs are actually rich in amino acids, essential in the production of the principal neurotransmitters.
This is also the case with acetylcholine, a synthesis made from methionine and serine used in the process of memorisation, where noradrenalin (which stimulates learning) and its production rely on the presence of tyrosine and phenylaline, which are again found in the proteins in eggs. If you don’t like eggs, consider white fish as an alternative.

8. Spinach for good memory

All leafy vegetables share a richness in Vitamin B9 (or folates), which is known to play an active role in the development of a foetus’ nervous tissue and also in the renewal of blood cells. One of the signs of Vitamin B9 deficiency is reduced awareness and memory deterioration³. This phenomenon, observed in people of advanced age with folate deficiency, can probably be explained by the fact that Vitamin B9 is needed for the maintenance of dendrites (arborisation of neurons, where B9 levels are high).
If you don’t like spinach, go for watercress, lamb’s lettuce, iceberg lettuce, broccoli or different types of herbs. Of these, rosemary is worth noting as it has certain flavonoids (notably apigenin) in its aroma, which possess stimulating properties affecting concentration and memory through encouraging cerebral blood flow.

9. Cocoa for brain stimulation

In Aztec times, cocoa was already considered a medicine. Later, Casanova, the legendary seducer of women, used chocolate as an aphrodisiac with the kind of effects we know well! Since then, the chemical analysis of cocoa paste has revealed many surprises; besides the important calorific benefits, the presence of molecules similar to caffeine (theobromine, theophylline) and amphetamines (phenylethylamine, tyramine) give chocolate its true power as a tonic and psycho-stimulant. At the same time, chocolate’s high magnesium content (330mg per 100g), and the molecules it contains which are similar to serotonin (the ‘relaxation’ hormone), account for its ‘anti-stress’ and anti-depressant effects.
But that’s not all! Scientists have demonstrated the positive role flavonoids present in cocoa play in encouraging better dilation of blood vessels⁴. These antioxidant compounds help fight free radicals and guard the brain’s activity. Beware of over-indulging, however. If you don’t like chocolate, drink tea (which also contains antioxidants) and weak coffee (for its caffeine and its psycho-stimulating effect⁵), but being mindful of excess and without indulging too much at the risk of cancelling out or even reversing the effects.

10. Avocado to keep the brain young

The avocado is exceptionally rich in Vitamin E. This vitamin constitutes one of the most powerful antioxidants and protects the fatty tissues of the brain from ageing. If you don’t like avocado, consider oleaginous fruit instead (nuts, particularly hazelnuts etc.).
And don’t forget that, in order to become a real intellectual athlete, you must equally train your brain with special exercises (cerebral games, memory puzzles…). And you mustn’t neglect rest either (sleep is crucial for the brain’s regeneration…). In following this advice, you may not pick up that Nobel Prize, but you will have a brain that’s at the top of its game nonetheless!

Osama bin Laden killed in an attack led by U.S. military

Osama bin Laden, the glowering mastermind behind the Sept. 11, 2001, terror attacks that murdered thousands of Americans, was killed in an operation led by the United States, President Barack Obama said Sunday.
A small team of Americans killed bin Laden in a firefight Sunday at a compound in Pakistan, the president said in a dramatic late-night statement at the White House.
A jubilant crowd gathered outside the White House as word spread of bin Laden's death after a global manhunt that lasted nearly a decade.
"Justice has been done," the president said.
Former President George W. Bush, who was in office on the day of the attacks, issued a written statement hailing bin Laden's death as a momentous achievement. "The fight against terror goes on, but tonight America has sent an unmistakable message: No matter how long it takes, justice will be done," he said.
Few details were immediately available of the operation that resulted in bin Laden's death, although the president said none of the Americans involved was harmed.
The development came just months before the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and Pentagon, orchestrated by bin Laden's al-Qaida organization, that killed more than 3,000 people.
The attacks set off a chain of events that led the United States into wars in Afghanistan, and then Iraq, and America's entire intelligence apparatus was overhauled to counter the threat of more terror attacks at home.

The build-up to the wedding and the occasion itself attracted much media attention, with the service being broadcast live around the world, and being compared and contrasted in many ways with the 1981 marriage of William's parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. It was estimated that the wedding would be watched by a global television audience of two billion people.
Much of the attention focused on Middleton's status as a commoner (i.e., not of royal blood or a part of the aristocracy) marrying into royalty. Hours before the service, the Queen conferred the titles Duke of Cambridge, Earl of Strathearn, and Baron Carrickfergus upon William. Upon her marriage, Middleton therefore became Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge, but is not styled as 'Princess Catherine'.

According to the website, the top 20 royals reign over nearly $60 billion in wealth and 15 royal lineages.

To compile the list, Forbes looked at international web and media presence, as well as family wealth. All 20 are single and under the age of 35.

As well as wealth and power, the young royals have also become successful in their chosen career paths.

William and Harry are both Army officers, with Harry secretly fighting in Afghanistan for ten weeks, while Zara is set to take part in this year's Beijing Olympics in the equestrian three-day event.

'The 20 Hottest Young Royals' will premiere next Friday (06.06.08) on US network E! Entertainment.

Jacob Lusk has gotten comparisons to Luther Vandross all season long, so finally he's tackling the R&B legend head-on. "It's scary," he admits, then notes that it's the late singer's birthday.
Jimmy Iovine thinks Dance With My Father is a great choice for Jacob, especially since it means something to him (Jacob's father passed away when he was young). "Everybody knows that Jacob can sing," Jimmy says. "Now they're going to find out if he can feel."
Jacob has trouble holding on to the song from the very first notes. It's possible he's having trouble hearing something, but from the way he looks upward, away from the stare of the camera, he might be struggling with the emotions of the song -- to the point that he pulls the microphone away for just a second and misses a note.
Soon, though, he reins in his emotions, channeling them all through his voice. Even with the missed note, it's the best vocal performance of the night. Extremely touching.
"You remind me all the time of the reason I love music," Steven says. "Your daddy was up there listening to you."
"It's hard to perform when a song means that much to you," Jennifer says. "You want to bare your soul, but at the same time you have to have enough control to find the notes."
"Vocally, it was good, but it didn't make me jump up and down," Randy says. "I need the return of the old Jacob. I need to see you go through the roof. ... If you're here next week, go for it. ... I need the church kid back."
Ryan asks Jacob about the missed note, and Jacob says it wasn't the emotion, there was a problem with the mix in his in-ear monitor.

Eight-year-old dies after being boiled alive

The boy suffered severe scalding to his entire body when he fell or jumped into a 212F (100C) pool in the North Island tourist resort of Rotorua.

Witnesses heard him screaming in agony and saw his skin peeling off during the Boxing Day incident.

He was airlifted by helicopter to the intensive care unit at Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

The boy, who was of Pacific Island heritage, was with his family visiting Rotorua's Kuirau Park, a geothermal hot spot pockmarked by boiling pools of water and natural cauldrons of bubbling mud.

Fences surround the geothermal features and there are warning signs in the council-run public park.

A hospital spokesman said the boy's family were with him when he died.

Anna Kare, a Frenchwoman who runs a café in the city, said she was walking through the park with her mother-in-law and two daughters when she heard screaming.

She saw a teenager, whom she assumed to be the boy's brother, running through the park with the child on his back.

"At first I thought they were just playing until I heard what he was saying," Mrs Kare said.

"There was screaming and yelling. It was just horrible.

"The boy was yelling 'my hands, my hands', and then I saw that all the skin was peeled off his hands."

Garry Page, Rotorua District Council parks and recreation manager, said: "Apparently this boy had actually climbed up on to the fence and jumped into the pool.

"There's not a lot we can do to stop that if someone is that determined to get over the fence."

Mr Page said the incident was under investigation.

Rotorua, which lies at the heart of a geothermal plateau, attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists each year to its geysers and related natural wonders.

New Zealand is on the Pacific Ring of Fire, notorious for its volcanic and seismic activity.

Man Kills Wife During Fantasy Sex Gunplay

DECEMBER 28--An Oklahoma City man facing a murder charge told cops that he accidentally shot his wife while the couple was having sex and engaging “in sexual fantasy involving a gun.”

Arthur Sedille, 23, called police last Tuesday to report that he “accidentally shot his wife in the head,” according to a court filing . Rebecca Sedille, 50, died from a single gunshot wound to the head.

Sedille top cops that he and his wife “often engage in sexual fantasy involving a gun,” and that he had “retrieved a handgun from a shelf beside the bed, racked the slide back causing the gun to cock and then placed the gun to his wife’s head.” The gun then discharged.

Sedille, pictured in the above mug shot, told investigators that he “did not realize the gun was loaded until the gun went off.” He is being held without bond at the Oklahoma County jail.

On his Facebook page, Sedille’s “likes and interests” include an assortment of pages devoted to weapons, gun sellers, and Smith & Wesson. He lists his employer as Stockton Telecom. (2 pages)

Bret Michaels has claimed that he could potentially replace Simon Cowell on American Idol's judging panel.
"I can't say this is true yet, because I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol," Michaels told the crowd during his concert at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Biloxi, MS on Friday, according to video obtained by TMZ.

In addition, The Celebrity Apprentice third-season winner and former Rock of Love star also encouraged the crowd to support him as Cowell's American Idol replacement in an "email to Fox."

A source close to Michaels told TMZ in a Saturday report that the former Poison frontman is "in the running to replace Simon" but added a deal is not close to being done.

In addition, a Fox representative told TMZ that the network is not commenting on any speculation regarding Cowell's replacement.

Michaels performed "Every Rose Has Its Thorns" with American Idol third-place finisher Casey James during last Wednesday night's live ninth-season finale broadcast, which also marked Cowell's final time on the show's judging panel.

Cowell subsequently suggested Michaels as a replacement when talking to reporters after the finale, People reported.

Known as the "Salmon River Caveman," Richard Zimmerman lived an essentially 19th century lifestyle, a digital-age anachronism who never owned a telephone or a television and lived almost entirely off the land.

"He was in his home at the caves at the end, and it was his wish to die there," said Connie Fitte, who lived across the river. "He was the epitome of the free spirit."

Richard Zimmerman had been in declining health when he died Wednesday.

Few knew him by his given name. To friends and visitors to his jumble of cave-like homes scrabbled from a rocky shoulder of the Salmon River, he was Dugout Dick.

He was the last of Idaho's river-canyon loners that date back to Territorial days. They are a unique group that until the 1980s included canyon contemporaries with names like Beaver Dick, Cougar Dave and Wheelbarrow Annie, "Buckskin Bill" (real name Sylvan Hart) and "Free Press Frances" Wisner. Fiercely independent loners, they lived eccentric lives on their own terms and made the state more interesting just by being here.

Most, like Zimmerman, came from someplace else. Drawn by Idaho's remoteness and wild places removed from social pressures, they came and spent their lives here, leaving only in death.

Some became reluctant celebrities, interviewed about their unusual lifestyles and courted by media heavyweights. Zimmerman was featured in National Geographic magazine and spurned repeated invitations to appear on the "Tonight Show."

"I ride Greyhounds, not airplanes," he said in a 1993 Statesman interview. "Besides, the show isn't in California. The show is here."

Cort Conley, who included Zimmerman in his 1994 book "Idaho Loners", said that "like Thoreau, he often must have smiled at how much he didn't need. É What gave him uncommon grace and dignity for me were his spiritual life, his musical artistry, his unperturbed acceptance of life as it is, and being a WWII veteran who had served his country and harbored no expectations in return."

His metamorphisis to Dugout Dick began when he crossed a wooden bridge over the Salmon River in 1947 and built a makeshift home on the side of a hill. He spent the rest of his life there, fashioning one cavelike dwelling after another, furnishing them with castoff doors, car windows, old tires and other leavings.

"I have everything here," he said. "I got lots of rocks and rubber tires. I have plenty of straw and fruit and vegetables, my dog and my cats and my guitars. I make wine to cook with. There's nothing I really need."

Some of his caves were 60 feet deep. Though he "never meant to build an apartment house," he earned spending money by renting them for $2 a night. Some renters spent one night; others chose the $25 monthly rate and stayed for months or years.

He lived in a cave by choice. Moved by a friend to a care center in Salmon at age 93 because he was in failing health, he walked out and hitchhiked home.

Bruce Long, who rented one of his caves and looked after him, said the care center "had bingo and TV, but things like that held no interest for him. He just wanted to live in his cave.

"People said he was the only person they'd ever known who was absolutely self-sufficient. He didn't work for anybody. He worked for himself."

Born in Indiana in 1916, Zimmerman grew up on farms in Indiana and Michigan, the son of a moonshiner with a mean streak. He rebelled against his domineering father and ran away at a young age, riding the rails west and learning the hobo songs he later would play on a battered guitar for guests at his caves.

He punched cows and worked as a farmhand, settling in Idaho's Lemhi Valley in 1937 and making ends meet by cutting firewood and herding sheep. In 1942, he joined the Army and served as a truck driver in the Pacific during World War II. When his service ended, he returned to Idaho and never left.

He raised goats and chickens, tended a bountiful vegetable garden and orchard and stored what he couldn't eat or sell in a root cellar. A lifelong victim of a quarrelsome stomach, he survived largely on what he could grow or make. Homemade yogurt ranked among his proudest achievements.

He was married once, briefly, to a pen-pal bride from Mexico. The other woman in his life, Bonnie Trositt, tired of life in a cave, left him for a job as a potato sorter and was murdered by her roommate. He claimed to see her spirit in the flickering light of a kerosene lamp on the cave walls.

He rarely went to church, but read and quoted continually from the Bible.

Oldest Person in US, Dies at 114

Mary Josephine Ray, who was considered to be the oldest person in the U.S. and second oldest person in the world, has died at 114, the New Hampshire Union Leader reported Monday.

The paper said Ray died early Sunday in her sleep at a Westmoreland, N.H. nursing home.

Born in Canada on May 17, 1895, she lived in Maine for nearly 60 years and moved to New Hampshire at 102 to be close to her son and his family.

The paper reported Ray was recognized as the second oldest person in the world in November when a woman in upstate New York died at the age of 114.

It said the oldest person in the world is believed to be a woman in Japan, Kama Chinen, who was born one week before Ray.

Neva Morris, 114, of Ames, Iowa, is now considered the oldest person in the United States, the paper reported.

Sexual harassment settlement for Brockton boy costs city $180K

It began with a 6-year-old city boy touching a girl in his class, and it ended up costing the city $50,000 in legal fees – plus thousands more in city insurance payouts totaling nearly a quarter-million dollars.
The elementary school student, accused of sexually harassing a classmate as a first-grader in 2006, will receive a total of about $160,000 in a legal settlement reached with the city. His parents received $20,000.
The boy, then 6, was suspended from the Downey Elementary School for three days after school officials accused him of sexually harassing a classmate. The principal said he had violated sexual harassment policy by touching a female classmate inside her clothing waistband during a class.
The case garnered international media attention, becoming the subject of talk shows and Internet discussion forums across the country.
Settlement documents and legal records obtained recently by The Enterprise show that the city spent $50,000 on legal defense fees to the Boston law firm Peabody & Arnold, which represented the city in the case.
Then, insurance kicked in. The city’s insurance carrier, AIG, paid out $240,000 in legal fees and settlements. The payments included:
The parents of the boy, Berthena and Phillip Dorinvil, were awarded $20,000.
The boy will receive a “guaranteed lump sum” of $132,003.76 on Oct. 25, 2017, plus four annual payments of $7,000 each in the years before then, settlement papers show.
Their attorney, John Pavlos, was paid $60,000 for his legal fees.
The case illustrates the importance of school officials setting up the proper protocols to handle these types of situations in city classrooms, Councilor-at-large Thomas Brophy said.
“It was not handled properly, and we’re paying the price,” said Brophy.
When reached at her home Thursday, the boy’s mother, Berthena Dorinvil, briefly recounted what her family went through in the case.
“The situation wasn’t a good experience,” Dorinvil said.
When asked about her son, now 10, who was later transferred to another school at his parents’ request, she said, “He’s doing great.”
Dorinvil declined to comment on the settlement, referring those questions to Pavlos, her attorney in the case.
When contacted about the settlement, Pavlos , the family’s attorney, said he could not discuss it.
“It was (settled) to the satisfaction of my clients,” Pavlos said Thursday. “My clients were satisfied, and that’s why they entered into the agreement.”
The incident occurred on Jan. 30, 2006. In an interview with The Enterprise at that time, Berthena Dorinvil said the principal called her to pick up her son and told her the boy had been sitting behind the girl on the carpet in a classroom with a teacher and about 20 students present. The girl complained to the teacher about the boy touching her.
Dorinvil said the principal told her that her son had put two fingers inside the waistband of the girl’s pants and touched her skin.
“She said to me, ‘That’s sexual harassment,’” Dorinvil said at the time. The school suspended the boy for three days.
After The Enterprise reported on the case, the story went worldwide and a media debate erupted over whether a child that age can sexually harass someone.
Later, the school department revised its policy on sexual harassment among students.
The boy’s family sued the city in 2007. Defendants in the complaint included then-Mayor James E. Harrington, then-School Superintendent Basan Nembirkow, then-Deputy Superintendent Anthony Luizzi, Downey School Principal Diane Gosselin and the entire School Committee at the time.
The city settled the case in August 2008.
As part of the settlement, the city agreed that the superintendent would authorize in-service training for Brockton elementary school principals, city records obtained by The Enterprise show.
Doing so would “familiarize them with the revised student sexual harassment policy, especially as it applies to allegations involving children under the age of 7, and to sensitize principals on how to handle complaints of sexual harassment,” according to the settlement agreement.
After suspending the boy, the principal also contacted the school police, the state Department of Social Services and Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz’s office.
Charges were not brought because state juvenile criminal laws do not apply to those younger than 7, Assistant District Attorney Bridget Norton Middleton said at the time.
According to city records, Harrington, the former mayor, made a personal apology to the boy’s parents during a Dec. 5, 2006, meeting at City Hall.
School, district attorney and state social-service records on the case were erased as part of the settlement.
On Thursday, School Superintendent Matthew Malone declined comment on the case, saying he wasn’t leading the district at the time of the boy’s suspension or the settlement.
Mayor Linda Balzotti, who also serves as School Committee chairwoman, said she hopes officials can learn from the case, take corrective measures and move forward.
“That is a significant amount of money,” said Balzotti, who was a city councilor but not on the School Committee at the time of boy’s suspension or settlement.
“From these experiences you try to learn something so that it won’t occur again,” the mayor said.
As part of the settlement agreement between the city and the boy’s family, legal documents show:
The school superintendent would erase all school department records of the boy engaging in sexually harassment or other inappropriate behavior on Jan. 30, 2006
The superintendent would notify the district attorney’s office and the state Department of Social Services in writing to erase any reports alleging the boy engaged in inappropriate or illegal behavior on Jan. 30, 2006
Diane Gosselin, still the Downey School principal, would provide a “personal, private letter of regret” to the family for applying the sexual harassment policy to the Jan. 30, 2006 situation.
The superintendent would authorize in-service training on sexual harassment policy for Brockton elementary school principals, especially as it applies to children under age 7.

Man EATING MEN ! CLifford Orji's "Brother" Innocent Orji Cannibal Kidnappers .Chinese man buried in bush

Clifford Orji the celebrated Cannibal and alleged Human Spare Parts Marketer, now 43, was arrested in February 1999, by the police, under the bridge along the Apapa-Oshodi expressway. He was subsequently charged before the Ebute-Metta Magistrate’s Court, on 19 February.

Items reportedly found on him at the time of his arrest are a cheque for the sum of N88,000; cell phone, allegedly sent to him by his brother, Linus, Managing Director, Crocodile Nigeria Limited. Other items were identified as fresh and roast human flesh, bones and sAs the South East is reeling under the problem of kidnapping, one of those behind this crime has made a shocking revelation on the activities of kidnappers. He said that apart from collecting ransom, kidnappers have killed many of their victims and policemen. He also said that at one instance kidnappers killed, roasted and ate their victim.

These are a part of the revelation of General Innocent Orji, who claims to belong to the high command of the Biafra Liberation Force (BLF), a unit of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB). The police recently nabbed the suspect, who was on a wanted list in connection with the kidnap on March 17, 2009, of two Chinese nationals and a Nigerian in a new auto plant in Nnewi, Anambra State.

Orji, also called ‘B’ Stone or Biafran Stone, had been linked with the invasion of a police station in Anambra, during which sophisticated arms were looted and an undisclosed number of cops killed, among many other criminal acts. He met his waterloo on Friday, May 29, more than two years after the three victims – Niu Guiqiang, Sylvester Unigwe, both of who survived the ordeal and Feng Shenyi, who died in the hoodlums’ bush camp, were abducted in Nnewi and taken to a hideout in Ebonyi State.

Orji had run into a police checkpoint in Onitsha, as a passenger on a commercial motorcycle with army uniforms. This had aroused the suspicion of policemen, who quickly took him into custody. A few days later, he was paraded along with 18 other kidnappers and robbers at a press conference organized by the Anambra State Police Commissioner, Amusa Bello, with Governor Peter Obi in attendance.

Meanwhile, Orji has made a startling revelation on the activities of kidnappers. He revealed in a confessional statement to the police, which also in video, that his group had set a policeman ablaze as well as killed, roasted and ate another victim. He revealed that his group received financial and material support from an Nnewi-based businessman (name withheld), who drafted a hit list for them.

The 28-year-old Orji, from Ebonyi State, said: “I am in charge of this gang operating under MASSOB. I schooled at Asaokpa Aja Primary School Over-rail from 1788 to 1994. I also schooled at Eziama High School, Aba from 1995 to 1999. I later learned tailoring work for a year under one Emelike at Jiakpu Street, Over-rail, Aba. When I finished learning, I worked for him for some time on payment basis.

After I was appointed the Commandant to be training MASSOB members on military parade from one province to another. Before the gang and I left for Edda, one army officer was training us at Ojoto (in Anambra) on military tactics. While at the Ojoto camp, one Ikechukwu, whose surname I don’t know, with one MASSOB chairman whose name I do not know but hails from Awka, brought N400,000.00, saying they went round collecting money from one chief (name withheld) and that the N400,000 was what they realized fAfter our stay at Ojoto, we then moved to an abandoned prison yard at Nnewi. At Nnewi, the army officer with us called Chukwuebuka led our boys on morning jogging and therein burnt down Nnewi Central Police Station. They also killed some policemen and snatched two AK 47 rifles. Later in the day, the police invaded our camp and scattered us. Chukwuebuka, who hails from Ideani (in Anambra), ran with one of the AK 47 rifles snatched from the police at CPS, Nnewi. We later regrouped at Edda, in Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. It was at Edda that Ejiofor, one of our members, asked me how much Ikechukwu brought from chief and I told him that it was N400,000.00. He said that the chief gave us N1 million, and not N400,000.000. I then called Ikechukwu and relayed the information I heard, and he denied same and I gave him two weeks to bring the balance of the money (N600,000). I insisted that he should bring the balance. When he failed to bring the balance, I instructed Ejiofor to go and arrest the chief who gave the money.

The chief’s arrest and kidnap of Chinese

Ejiofor went on the mission with nine other members. He was arrested and I asked how much he gave to us and he said that it was N1million and not N400,000.

When chief asked us what he would do to secure his freedom. I told him to pay N50million, but he said that he could only give us N20million, as he had no much money. He thereafter called his manager to look for the money. Chief instructed his manager to bring the N20million with one of his vehicles.

In the process, Chief said that he was not the only one to be arrested. Chief gave a list of names to Ejiofor who brought same to me. I can only remember three names for now: The Chairman of Innoson Group (Chief Innocent Chukwuma), and the owner of Capital Oil, Nnewi. There were about seven names on the list, but I can only remember these names I mentioned above.

After the release of Chief, about two months and some weeks, we went for the arrest of the (chairman of) Innoson Group. It was Ejiofor who led the operation. My group went to Innoson Group, but missed their target, but they arrested two Chinese men with one black man and brought them to the camp. We later released the black man on payment of N10million and he promised to bring more N10million for the release of the two white men. Suddenly, the Nigerian Army attacked us at the Edda camp. Some of us were killed, arrested and some ran away. I escaped with the two white men and with some of my members. After two days, we got to Erei, where I disguised myself, by giving one of the white men my uniform and putting on his own dress.

I then handed over the two Chinese men to one Okpai, Incredible and Miliki, to take care of them while I left to search for food. I left with three of my members to search for the food. The names of those who went with me were Ogbuebuke, Garbros and Ishmael. As we were going towards Ohofia area, the Nigerian Army pursued us and we ran into the bush. We were inside the bush for about three days and we later found our way out. I later learnt that my boys I left behind at Erei had been scattered by the Nigerian soldiers. I was also informed that the Nigerian Army had rescued one of the white men.

After three to four months, I asked Miliki and Incredible about the remaining white man. They told me that the remaining white man died from cold occasioned by three-day rain that fell on them and that he was buried at Edda, in Afikpo South LGA of Ebonyi State.

Edda camp

From the money we realized, five of us married from it. They are Sunday, Diwila Living Stone, Heavy Stone and Innocent. I do also paid my boys N20,000 every month and also gave money to take care of their family problems when such arose. The structure of the camp at Edda was as follows: The Centre building was known as Defence Headquarters and it was where I used to stay; X1 – This sector is headed by our armourer called G.O.D. and the said armourer is now deceased. He died while preparing explosives, which went off in the process; X 2 – this sector is headed by Ejiofor; X3 – this sector is headed by Miliki.

All the sectors will report daily events to Okpai, who will, in turn, report to me as the General. It was the army officer by name Ike, with one other boy, simply called Abala, that led me to one Emeka at Abala, where I bought eight G.3 rifles at the cost price of N200,000 and one revolver pistol I also bought for N100,000 each. I also bought the seed (the bullets) for N300 each and I bought 1,000 pieces.

I do not know where the dead Chinese man was buried at Ugwufe Edda. It was Incredible, Bruce Bunker, Papa Wamba, Francis, None and Onyema that can know where the dead Chinese was buried as I left him with them at Erei. The Erei is located between Ohofia and Cross-River.”

My waterloo

Ike, an Army officer based at Lagos, called me on phone, informing me of the death of his mother in-law. He requested that I should accompany him to the burial at Nteje. I then left Aba and met him at Upper Iweka. He then called one Sunday who told him that he was at Obodo Ukwu road. He brought some army uniforms from his bag and told me that he bought them for us to regroup. He gave me the uniforms and instructed that I should hand over the unsowed and sowed uniforms to the said Sunday at Obodo Ukwu. He said Sunday resides at Obodo Ukwu Road, Okpoko (Onitsha). I told him that police were too many on the road and that he should talk to Sunday by himself, but he said that wherever I was arrested by the police I should call him. As I was going on top of a motorcycle the police stopped us at Upper Iweka and I called him. He told me that he was called on phone that his pregnant wife had major operation and that he was on his way back to Lagos. He called an army officer at Onitsha to come and rescue me. Before the arrival of the soldier, I had been transferred to this place. I know too well that I have been declared wanted for series of crimes I took part.

Why I joined MASSOB

Yes, I wanted to join the Nigerian Army, but I was blocked by lack of what we the Igbo call ‘IM’ (ima mmadu). I was fit, in terms of training, in terms of race, in terms of anything, I was very, very fit, but at the end of the whole thing, due to some people knew the high-rank officers, and I did not know anyone, my name was out of the game. I tried it two good times, no way before Mr. Chima introduced me to MASSOB, and I said if that is the case, if Biafra could be actualized, I would be one of the Biafran solders.

I doff my hat for the police

I am very, very proud of the Nigerian Police. How they did the investigation of this my case marvelled me. It is not good to judge any man by hearing from one man. Make sure the two persons are there before you judge. I have been here for some days, and in this my case, I have seen how serious the police are with the investigation and the seriousness with which my I.P.O. and co-officers have been taking my statement. Right inside me, from my heart, I know I have sinned against heaven, against God. I have sinned against the angels, and even against the land. I am not even worthy to live, but if there is any way they will allow me to live, let them put me straight in the police and I will work. I thank God that I have been arrested. I was declared wanted, but I could not just come out like that.

And our native doctor whose name is Eni from Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State, roasted the man and ate him. But, it was not only Eni that ate the man. It was Eni, his master, and another man called Onunu Ekwensu.

Canadian HIV vaccine ready for human tests

An HIV/AIDS vaccine developed in Canada has passed safety tests in animals and the researchers are awaiting approval to begin human trials in the U.S.

"It is a very important milestone for us," said Yong Kang, a professor of microbiology at the University of Western Ontario in London who has been working on the vaccine for 20 years.

Kang said he expects to get the go-ahead soon from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to begin human toxicology tests and two phases of clinical trials in the United States.

If all three trials are successful, the vaccine should be available within the next decade, Kang told CBC News on the phone while attending a meeting in South Korea.

According to a 2008 United Nations report on the global AIDS epidemic, 33 million people were living with HIV in 2007. Two million people died of causes related to the disease that year.

Dozens of HIV vaccines have already been developed and tested in animal models, but few have been tested in humans, none successfully. A promising trial in 2007 by pharmaceutical giant Merck and Co. was shut down after those receiving the vaccine contracted HIV at a higher rate than those who received the placebo.

Kang has partnered with a Curacom, a South Korean holding company, that has agreed to open an office in London, Ont., to help fund research in Kang's lab and commercialize the vaccine.

A test vaccine is being manufactured in a lab in Maryland near Washington, D.C.

Lab tests showed the vaccine produced no adverse effects or safety risks during immunology tests on animals.

The toxicology tests are expected to include 40 to 50 HIV-positive volunteers in the U.S., and will be designed to test whether the vaccine is toxic in humans.

Scattered applause and whoops broke out in the crowded Manhattan courtroom after U.S. District Judge Denny Chin issued the maximum sentence to the 71-year-old defendant, who said he lives "in a tormented state now, knowing all the pain and suffering I've created."

Chin rejected a request by Madoff's lawyer for leniency and said he disagreed that victims of the Ponzi scheme were seeking mob vengeance.

"Here the message must be sent that Mr. Madoff's crimes were extraordinarily evil and that this kind of manipulation of the system is not just a bloodless crime that takes place on paper, but one instead that takes a staggering toll," Chin said.

The judge said the estimate that Madoff has cost his victims more than $13 billion was conservative because it did not include money from feeder funds.

"Objectively speaking, the fraud here was staggering," he said.

Chin announced the sentence with Madoff standing at the defense table, wearing a dark suit, white shirt and a tie, and looking thinner than his last court appearance in March. He gave no noticeable reaction when the sentence was announced.

He also showed no emotion earlier in the hearing as he listened to nine victims spend nearly an hour describing their despair. Some openly wept. Others raised their voices in anger.

"Life has been a living hell. It feels like the nightmare we can't wake from," said Carla Hirshhorn.

"He stole from the rich. He stole from the poor. He stole from the in between. He had no values," said Tom Fitzmaurice. "He cheated his victims out of their money so he and his wife Ruth could live a life of luxury beyond belief."

Dominic Ambrosino called it an "indescribably heinous crime" and urged a long prison sentence so "will know he is imprisoned in much the same way he imprisoned us and others."

He added: "In a sense, I would like somebody in the court today to tell me, how long is my sentence?"

When asked by the judge whether he had anything to say, Madoff slowly stood, leaned forward on the defense table and spoke in a monotone for about 10 minutes. At various times, he referred to his historic fraud as a "problem," "an error of judgment" and "a tragic mistake."

He claimed he and his wife were tormented, saying she "cries herself to sleep every night, knowing all the pain and suffering I have caused," he said. "That's something I live with, as well."

He then finally looked at the victims lining the first row of the gallery.

"I will turn and face you," he said. "I'm sorry. I know that doesn't help you."

Afterward, Ruth Madoff -- often a target of victims' scorn since her husband's arrest -- broke her silence by issuing a statement through her lawyer. She said she, too, had been misled.

"I am embarrassed and ashamed," she said. "Like everyone else, I feel betrayed and confused. The man who committed this horrible fraud is not the man whom I have known for all these years."

Prosecutor Lisa Baroni said Madoff deserved a life sentence because he "stole ruthlessly and without remorse."

The jailed Madoff already has taken a severe financial hit: Last week, a judge issued a preliminary $171 billion forfeiture order stripping Madoff of all his personal property, including real estate, investments and $80 million in assets Ruth Madoff had claimed were hers. The order left her with $2.5 million.

The terms require the Madoffs to sell a $7 million Manhattan apartment where Ruth Madoff still lives. An $11 million estate in Palm Beach, Fla., a $4 million home on Long Island and a $2.2 million boat will be put on the market, as well.

Before Madoff became a symbol of Wall Street greed, he earned a reputation as a trusted money manager with a Midas touch. Even as the market fluctuated, clients of his secretive investment advisory business -- from Florida retirees to celebrities such as Steven Spielberg, actor Kevin Bacon and Hall of Fame pitcher Sandy Koufax -- for decades enjoyed steady double-digit returns.

But late last year, Madoff made a dramatic confession: Authorities say he pulled his sons aside and told them it was "all just one big lie."

Madoff pleaded guilty in March to securities fraud and other charges, saying he was "deeply sorry and ashamed." He insisted that he acted alone, describing a separate wholesale stock-trading firm run by his sons and brother as honest and legitimate.

Aside from an accountant accused of cooking Madoff's books, no one else has been criminally charged. But the family, including his wife, and brokerage firms that recruited investors have come under intense scrutiny by the FBI, regulators and a court-appointed trustee overseeing the liquidation of Madoff's assets.

The trustee and prosecutors have sought to go after assets to compensate thousands of burned victims who have filed claims against Madoff. How much is available to pay them remains unknown, though it's expected to be only a fraction of the astronomical losses associated with the fraud.

The $171 billion forfeiture figure used by prosecutors merely mirrors the amount they estimate that, over decades, "flowed into the principal account to perpetrate the Ponzi scheme." The statements sent to investors showing their accounts were worth as much as $65 billion were fiction.

The investigation has found that in reality, Madoff never made any investments, instead using the money from new investors to pay returns to existing clients -- and to finance a lavish lifestyle for his family.

In bankruptcy filings, Trustee Irving Picard say family members "used customers accounts as though they were their own," putting Madoff's maid, boat captain and house-sitter in Florida on the company payroll and paying nearly $1 million in fees at high-end golf clubs on Long Island and in Florida.

Picard has sought to reclaim ill-gotten gains by freezing Madoff's business bank accounts and selling legitimate portions of his firm. (Its season tickets for the Mets went for $38,100.) He's also sued big money managers and investors for billions of dollars, claiming they were Madoff cronies who also cashed in on the fraud.

The defendants include leading philanthropists Stanley Chais and Jeffry Picower -- from whom Picard is seeking at least $5.1 billion alleged to have come out of victims' pockets -- and hedge fund manager J. Ezra Merkin. All have denied any wrongdoing.

Weird Creatures Found on Deep-Sea "Mountain Range"

Abundant new and rare marine species have been discovered on a deep-sea mountain range in the middle of the North Atlantic, scientists say.

Exotic worms, colorful corals, unusual sea cucumbers, and a plethora of weird fish are among the creatures that scientists spotted on a recent expedition to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, an underwater range that divides the North Atlantic Ocean in two
At least one new species, a tiny crustacean called a seed shrimp, is likely new to science, researchers said.

Another exciting find was a "spiral poo worm," an animal first identified in 2005 that deposits spiral-shaped feces, some of which have been found in the fossil record dating back hundreds of millions of years.

"We found lots of these primitive species," said expedition leader Monty Priede, director of the Oceanlab research center at Britain's University of Aberdeen.

The expedition brought together an international team of 31 scientists coordinated by the Norway-based MAR-ECO project and the global Census of Marine Life program initiative.

Over five weeks, the researchers explored and mapped more than 1,500 square miles (3,900 square kilometers) of the deep-sea ridge between Iceland and the Azores islands off Portugal (see Europe map).

"It was like going to a new country," Priede said.

Undersea Alps

Using the latest technology, including remotely operated underwater vehicles, the researchers were able to observe creatures living between depths of 2,600 and 11,500 feet (800 and 3,500 meters).

Until now this region of the ocean had scarcely been explored because of its remoteness and depth.

Michael Jackson dies:survived by three children

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived. A cardiologist at UCLA tells TMZ Jackson died of cardiac arrest.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

A source inside the hospital told us there was "absolute chaos" after Jackson arrrived. People who were with the singer were screaming, "You've got to save him! You've got to save him!"

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Koreans gang-rape Nigerian house girl …In Port Harcourt

Two Koreans at the Mbiama base of a popular Korean firm, Daewoo Nigeria Limited, Rivers State, are at the center of a sex scandal that is now a subject matter before an Ahoada Magistrate Court in the state.

One of them, Mr. Moon, is the company’s General Manager, Engineering and Construction.
Their accuser is Miss Juliet Agada, an erstwhile housekeeper employed by one of the company’s contractors, Ekine and Davids, who alleged that her sack was as a result of her failure to satisfy the sexual demands of the Koreans, Messrs Moon and Jang.

Juliet’s lawyer, Mrs. Hilda Desmond-Ihekaire, is demanding a whopping N44million from the Koreans.
The girl is also urging the Ahoada Magistrate Court to issue a warrant of arrest against the two accused expatriates.

Induced ejaculation
In one of the two sworn affidavits in support of her case, Juliet alleged that in the course of performing her duties, Mr. Moon sexually harassed her, “on many occasions”.
Citing a specific incident, she deposed that on November 7 last year, “Mr. Moon sexually harassed me again by forcing me against my wish to massage him until he ejaculated,” adding that when she resisted him, he threatened to instigate her sack.

Black monkey
Alleging further that, “Mr. Moon always called me a black monkey who should be grateful that he asked me to massage him,” Juliet stated that, “Mr. Moon had been using me as his sex toy by compelling me to do all sorts of things to assuage his sexual appetite.”
In the case of Mr. Jang, the sacked Housekeeper deposed that, “from the time I started this work, Mr. Jang has been making inordinate sexual demands on me.”

Two dollars per round
She recalled that on September 18, 2007, the Korean gave her two dollars for sex with him and when she failed to keep an evening appointment that day, he gave her extra N5,000 the next day, “and demanded to sleep with me instantly.”

Brutal sex
She further averred that in spite of her plea that he allows her “a little time to come back later (sic) in the day,” he locked the door, “pulled down his
trousers, held my hands and tried to force himself on me.”
But according to the girl, she managed to open the door and fled.
She alleged that the Korean later came back demanded his money, threatening to deal with her, “by all means”.

Disowned
However, in their separate sworn affidavits in support of a motion filed by the Koreans through their lawyer Dennis Otiotio, four former colleagues of Juliet at the Base, Miss Mercy Ekine, Miss Sueiza Garris, Miss Joy Ekine and the camp boss, Mr. Okah Emmanuel, denied the allegations against the Koreans, stressing that Juliet never complained to them of any sexual harassment or assault by the Koreans.

Theft allegation
Instead, they alleged that her sack was due to, “series of complaints of theft in Camp A” where she served, an allegation the complainant equally denied.
Also, the landlord to Daewoo and owner of the contractor-firm that employed Juliet for the housekeeping job at the Base, Chief Okari Ekine, stated that throughout the period she worked in the camp, Juliet “never told me as her employer, that she was been (sic) sexually harassed or assaulted” by the Koreans.
The trial Magistrate, Mrs. Kariba Draids, fixed Tuesday, March 4, for further hearing of the matter.

Sixth-grader stabbed by classmate

YUCCA VALLEY — A 12-year-old boy’s lung was punctured when a fellow sixth-grader stabbed him after school Wednesday afternoon.The boy’s father said Friday he is recovering in an area hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery to put a drainage tube in his chest.

“He’s been in terrible pain,” said the Yucca Valley man, who asked that his family’s identity be withheld.The stabbing occurred after the victim was told the other boy, who is 13, had inappropriately touched a female friend of the victim. The victim confronted the older boy about the incident and told him not to touch the girl again.
The victim’s father said he was told the 13-year-old brought a knife to school Wednesday and told others he intended to use it to stab the boy who had confronted him.
The man learned that after classes, as groups of students walked home from school, the boy with the knife asked the 12-year-old if he was afraid and showed him the weapon.

The 12-year-old pushed the 13-year-old to the ground, but the older boy got up and stabbed the victim under the arm.
Bleeding, the victim stanched the wound with a towel he happened to have because the school had hosted a field day and walked about a half-mile to a friend’s house.

“All of a sudden my son ran in the door. ‘Dad, Dad, (my friend) was stabbed! He’s bleeding!” said Tracy Hunter, mom to the victim’s best friend.

Hunter’s husband called the victim’s father.
“I raced down there, picked him up and raced him right to the hospital,” the man said.

By Friday, the boy’s condition was improving and his family hoped he would be released today.

They are torn between pride that their son stood up for a friend and regret that he didn’t tell the authorities instead of confronting a fellow student himself.

“He stands up against bullies. That sometimes gets him into trouble,” said his father.

The boy also missed his sixth-grade promotion Friday, where he was scheduled to get the President’s Award for Academics.

The suspect was taken to juvenile hall.

The victim’s father said he was told the district attorney did not intend to press charges, something Deputy District Attorney Karen Martinez could neither confirm nor deny since the suspect is a juvenile and protected by strict privacy laws.

'Crazy Turtle Woman' transforms graveyard into maternity ward

MATURA, Trinidad (CNN) -- With its white sand and clear, blue water, Trinidad's Matura Beach looks like a postcard. It's a far cry from its recent past, when leatherback sea turtle carcasses littered the ground and kept tourists away.

Suzan Lakhan Baptiste's efforts have turned a beach from a leatherback turtle graveyard to a nesting colony.

"Twenty years ago, this was a graveyard," Suzan Lakhan Baptiste said of the six-mile stretch of beach near her home.
"The stench was horrendous. You could smell it for miles," she said.
Saddened and frustrated, Baptiste launched a crusade to help end the slaughter of the gentle giants. Today, she and her group are succeeding: What was once a turtle graveyard is now a maternity ward -- one of the largest leatherback nesting colonies in the world.
It hasn't been an easy fight for Baptiste or the turtles.
For 100 million years, the creatures have traveled the world's oceans, outliving the dinosaurs. Over the last 30 years, they have become critically endangered worldwide because of fishing, pollution and hunting.
For centuries, they've been hunted throughout the Caribbean for their meat and fins, and also for their eggs, which some people prize as aphrodisiacs.
"Turtles are in serious trouble," Baptiste said.

Every year, female leatherbacks make their way onto the beach, laying their eggs deep in the sand. It is a long, complicated ritual during which the enormous, slow-moving animals are easy prey for poachers.
"Leatherbacks [are] very vulnerable," Baptiste said. "They cannot pull their head and flippers back into the shell. They have no sense of defense to actually protect themselves."
By the 1980s, nearly one in three turtles that nested on Matura Beach were killed. When the government asked for volunteers to help protect the endangered creatures, Baptiste and several others answered the call. In 1990, they started Nature Seekers, one of Trinidad's first environmental groups.
'Crazy Turtle Woman'
For years, Baptiste and her group patrolled the beaches every night of turtle nesting season. She often walked alone until sunrise.
Locals mocked her efforts, calling her the "Turtle Police" or "Crazy Turtle Woman," yet her dedication to the unpaid work was fierce; when it conflicted with her day job, she quit and found a new job.
Leatherbacks were a vital source of income for some members of her village, and the poachers who prowled the beaches with machetes could be threatening. When Baptiste's then-husband was injured during a patrol, she became more determined to stand her ground.
"I was very vigilant," she said, adding that at times, she even got into physical fights.
But Baptiste persisted, and a prestigious award from the United Nations Environment Program helped validate her efforts. She and her group also worked hard to convince the villagers that using the turtles for eco-tourism could create a more sustainable income.
"I wanted to show that a turtle is [worth] so much more to us alive than dead," Baptiste said.
Gradually, her message of conservation turned the tide of public opinion, and after nearly two decades under Baptiste's leadership, Nature Seekers has largely won its battle. Today, the leatherbacks' survival rate on Matura Beach is virtually 100 percent.
"Here, turtle slaughter is a thing of the past," Baptiste proclaimed.
Even "Papa George," a village elder who used to hunt leatherbacks with his father, can attest to the cultural shift.
"Suzan brought around the change," he said. "They don't kill the turtles anymore ... because of the visitors."
Nearly 10,000 tourists a year, most of whom are Trinidadian, now visit Matura Beach, and many locals make a living by providing them with accommodations, food and souvenirs.
Since the beach is a prohibited area during the nesting season, Nature Seekers' members act as guides, explaining the turtles' ancient rituals to visitors. In addition, Baptiste and her colleagues gather data on the enormous creatures, tagging and weighing as many leatherbacks as they can. During peak season, they might see between 250 or 300 turtles a night. More than 5,000 leatherbacks nest in the area each year. The group's work is often cited as one of the most successful eco-tourism efforts in the Caribbean.
Still, turtle slaughter persists throughout the region, and Baptiste is working to help other groups learn from her success, most recently on the island of Dominica.
She finds joy in sharing her hard-earned knowledge.
"The passion that I feel, it burns me up," she said. "I have seen the fruits of our labor, and it can happen in every community." Watch how Baptiste helped end the slaughter of turtles in her community »
Her efforts -- and those of many others around the region -- are making a difference. While leatherbacks are still critically endangered worldwide, the Caribbean population has begun to rebound.
"When I got started, a lot of people thought I was crazy," Baptiste said, and she admits that she sometimes wondered if they were right. Reflecting on what she and her team have accomplished, she now believes it was worth it.
"I love being crazy, you know?" she said, laughing. "Crazy with a passion, crazy with a dream -- totally environmentally crazy."

Officials in Kazakhstan say they have a found a woman who will this week celebrate her 130th birthday, making her 16 years older than the oldest known human currently living.
Sakhan Dosova - a mother of ten - says she has never visited a doctor nor eaten sweets. She is addicted to cottage cheese and puts her longevity down to her sense of humour.
Her remarkable age came to light during a census in Karaganda in northern Kazakhstan. Demographers were astonished to find that she was Her date of birth is said to be 27 March 1879, and it is clearly shown on her documents including her Soviet era passport and independent Kazakhstan identity card.
Until the recent census, however, her fame did not extend beyond her far-flung city.
While some Kazakh officials are pressing for more detailed checks on her claim, fearing the country could face ridicule if it is shown to be false, she has no doubts and is basking in her new found fame.
'I don't have any special secret,' she said. 'I've never taken pills and if I was ill, I used granny's remedies to cure me.
'I have never eaten sweets, I don't like them. But I love kurt (a salty dried cottage cheese) and talkan (ground wheat).'
Gaukhar Kanieva, 42, her grand-daughter, said: 'She is a very cheerful woman. We think laughter and her good mood helped her live so long.'

Nailya Dosayeva, head of social and demographical department of Karaganga regional statistics bureau, said there is no doubt that her claim is authentic.
'Sakhan Dosova was found during our census held in February and March. She has an old passport and documents which are genuine, and based on these we can judge her age as being correct.'
The local mayor Islam Togaybayev went to visit her 'to personally congratulate her on such an achievement and show his respect', said his spokesman.
If Sakhan's year of birth is accurate, it means she was born when Queen Victoria still had 22 more years to rule in Britain and Disraeli was prime minister.
It was the year that Stalin and Einstein were born, the Anglo-Zulu war started, and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle published his first story.
The year 1879 also saw Edison present his new invention - the light bulb - while the ill-fated last tsar of Russia was just 11 years old.
She was ten when Hitler was born, 38 when Lenin led the Russian Revolution, and reached retirement age, 60, the year the Second World War began.
The old woman lives in poor conditions in an overcrowded flat with one of her granddaughters, though she is said to be in good health apart from some problems with her hearing.
According to one account of her life, twice-married Sarkan was widowed at the Battle of Stalingrad during the Second World War. Only three of her children remain alive.
Officially, the oldest living person in the world is American Edna Parker of the US at 114.
Some Kazakh bureaucrats want more checks to be done to ascertain the accuracy of her claim, pointing out that birth records in Kazakhstan in the 19th century are notoriously unreliable.
'We can see that this is turning into a big story and for the sake of our country, we need to be sure her claim is correct,' said one official.
According to one version of her life, she must have given birth to several children over the age of 60, he said.
'There is no doubt she is very old. But is she really 130? Or was there a white lie long ago which was never corrected? We need to find out.'
The central Asian state is only now recovering from damage to its reputation caused by Sacha Baron Cohen's film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
Senior state statistician Lyudmila Kolesova said: 'We're checking the authenticity of the data on her case.'
